Summer Season Brings New Problems To Play

Summer Season Brings New Problems To Play
June 6, 2012 LSadmin

Each and every year we go through various seasons no matter what part of the country we reside in. However, one season that individuals love from East to West is that of the warm, Summer months. Summer is a time that students are out of school, and vacation time is finally here. People enjoy the summer in many different, yet equally fun aspects whether it is traveling, cooking out, or simply just going out to the park to enjoy the weather. However, one thing that that is an absolute definite of the summer is that of swimming pools. Yet, are pools constantly bringing fun, or also bringing problems?

The Facts of The Water

Last year, the CDC released statistics that stated 3,533 drownings occurred last year alone. This year summer is now upon us and the door for accidents occurring is wide open. Many drownings that occur leave the possibility of  a wrongful death lawsuit completely open and possible, especially when it comes down to children. Currently, studies show that children between the ages of one and four are statistically higher to be the victims of drowning, but adults can also be injured, or die as a result of drowning.

Although individuals that drown are primarily known to die as a result of the accident, many people can survive drowning, but are unfortunately left with serious, debilitating injuries. When drowning actually occurs individuals are unable to breath and receive oxygen. Your brain and lungs need oxygen in order to function, which can seriously be damaged without it.

What You Can Do To Protect Yourself, and Your Family

With so many possible accidents being able to occur what can you do as a pool owner, and a parent in order to make sure that you, your children, your family, and your friends are safe while taking a dip? Some suggestions include, but are not limited to:

  • Always supervise children while they are in, and even around a pool.
  • Make sure that you, or your children participate in swimming lessons if necessary.
  • Make sure that fencing around your pool is stable, and solid in order to make sure that your pool is always monitored and safe.
  • Make sure to clear your pool deck of floaties, and toys.
  • Take the time to learn CPR in case a drowning does occur.
