Biking: Fun or Fatal?

Today, we live in a world that we are literally constantly on the go. We wake up every morning and instantly have a million things that we have to do whether it is going to work or school, taking children from place to place, or simply going and picking up the mail or groceries. Finally, after all the tasks are done we are able to sit back and relax, but not for too long considering we have to repeat the process at least five days a week. However, we do find time to enjoy leisurely activities that not only promote a healthy lifestyle, but also keep us from imploding on the inside from stress.

Biking is an activity that many Americans participate within whether it is to work out, or as an alternative method of transportation. In major cities, most individuals do not own vehicles, but bicycles in order to beat the traffic of the streets, and the crowds within the subway. However, many bicyclists are now getting more than they bargained as a result of erratic, and reckless driving.

Biking accidents are at an all time high and are constantly leaving individuals not only with serious and debilitating injuries, but dead most of the time. One would automatically assume that these incidents occur thanks to drivers under the influence of alcohol or other drugs. Yet, most cases can be seen that the driver was not drunk or under the influence of drugs, but was simply careless and was either not watching the road, or was busy on their cellphone while driving.

Many states do not have laws that protect bicyclists on and off roadways, which means that most cases are just assumed as something less serious that do not deal properly with the matters at hand. However, hopefully as we look to the future we can assume that lawmakers will begin to take everyone into consideration on the roadways when making laws active whether you are a driver of a vehicle, a bicyclists, or even just a pedestrian.

If you or a loved one has been injured or killed while riding a bicycle you are entitled to damages for your injuries and suffering. Make sure to have an experienced, and committed attorney at your side every step of the way.
