Tomatoe Recall Due To Salmonella Possibility

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

Today, technology is moving at a rapid pace that continues to better our society, and world as a whole. We can see everyday that medical breakthroughs are becoming more and more common, that we can talk to people for hours and hours at a time even if they are in another country, and we can even shop on our computers to stores that could be hundreds of miles away. Either way, technology is there to help us and inevitably ease the hardships that a task has had in the past. However, has technology helped us catch up with everything?

Recently, a company located within St. Louis recalled hundreds of boxes of grape tomatoes that were at a large risk of gaining salmonella. Stores located not only in Missouri, but also in Illinois that were shipped these potentially dangerous tomatoes that if having the pathogen could easily not only make the consumer dangerously sick, but in some cases shows that some could die from it. Salmonella is a form of food poisoning that can easily last from eight hours to up, and past a three-day period of time. Diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps are commonly associated with salmonella and without proper medical attention symptoms can become worse, and inevitably can hurt an individual longer than expected.

The tomatoes, grown in Texas, were packaged in both 10 ounce, and 10-pound containers and then distributed to the stores within both states. Luckily, the supplier performed a random testing on the grape tomatoes and noticed signs of contamination. From there, the overall production of the tomatoes was halted and an investigation was then set into play by the Food and Drug Administration, also known as the FDA.

The distributor, Front Row Produce, has sought to avoid public confusion and has labeled the non-contaminated tomatoes with a green dot that are currently in grocery stores in Illinois and Missouri. If a package does not have a green dot citizens are advised to not only not purchase the tomatoes, but also bring it to the attention of the grocery store management.

Court Employee Receives Worker’s Compensation

Wednesday, December 14th, 2011

In today’s day and age, we are currently in an economic recession. The impact can not only be seen, but also felt in many families throughout the United States. People are beginning to watch their spending, saving more, and trying to conserve and use less of what they have so that they are ultimately understanding the value of a dollar, and what it truly consists of. Yet, every one encounters variables every once and a while. Life never really brings the guarantee of perfection, but or less the possibility for instances to occur.

Recently, a St. Louis circuit court reporter received damages that amounted in over $90,000 for the injuries she sustained over time as a result from her job that was held for over 20 years. The injuries were said to be due to repetitive stress being placed upon the wrists, and elbows, which if not treated could cause a further lifetime of pain, or even joints, and other muscles being affected by the prior injury.

The woman was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome, as well cubital tunnel syndrome due to the task of having to type all day, everyday for 20 years, as well as the extensive filing of court documents, and other miscellaneous papers.

The woman sought compensation prior to the recent ruling, but was denied. Luckily, the ruling was appealed to the worker’s compensation board, which then helped the woman get the damages she deserved for years of diligent work, and debilitating pain.

People today are already in a rough patch thanks to the national economy, employment rates fluctuating, as well as the rising costs of products in the market. With so many things in mind a person can only handle so much at once, but when one thing that is drastic occurs it can easily send individuals down a hole of hardships, and other financial issues. When a person is either injured on the job, or as a result from the work they are participating in they deserve not only fairness, but also justice as a whole.
